Movie Time

Everybody remembers the movie we watched last week right?

Aptly titled "Raise Your Voice", it demonstrates literally what most of you all ELDDS members should do. Yes, raise your voice!

Terri Fletcher, the female lead in the movie weaved the story scene to scene, from losing her brother to entering college against her father's will, portrayed the story's tagline:

Never Give Up!

Impressed by the fantastic musical talents the actors all possessed,

Movie Evening: Wasn't it a great idea? Plus, wasn't it absolutely nice, comfortable and cosy to have your cushions, pillows, cushies and your potato chips...

See you soon.

1st session

Today, we had our very first ELDDS session after Leader Commencement Day. We started off with a CIP activity wanted by Ms Phua, we collected a total of $261.15. Good job to everyone, $261.15 in 1hr time is definitely worth bragging about.

After that, we proceeded with our introduction on the commitee. There are many new changes that we hope to allow EL to be more fun but also more enriching and meaningful. Standard rules are also introduced, everything is $0.50 if you don't do it right.

We also have Anita and Nazira in showing us a movie which ask us what is the reality in life. Is money the only happiness?

We also thank all the members for being so attentive and sporting at the right time today. Keep up the spirit!

TRUE ALARM!!!

What Yong Quan say is very true(exept for the oil price hike part)!!! (that is why it is true alarm), smiling is spreading like wild fire, I bet you are even smiling now. Please consult your nearest clinic/hospital specialised in treating such cases. Too bad those clinics and hospitals weren't set up yet, so sad for all of us, please cry... ... so that you will not smile (haha).

Some people will not smile, some will only smile inside their hearts, some smile on the outside, but not inside (fake smiles), some smile on the outside and inside (true smiles).

Scientists have manage to classify laughs into three different catergories: hahaha, hehehe and hohoho; all of which have different characteristics of its own. They also have concluded that when you laugh, you will also sub-consciously smile at the same time.

Hope you don't get accused of cheating if you smile during your exams.

ALERT!!!

WARNING!!!!

There is a contagious disease looming around Singapore!!!

It is not SARS, HFMD, Avian Flu etc.

It is...

=D

SMILING!!!

Yes it is contagious! Do you not know?
If there is a big, unhappy group of people, just get one person to smile!
Within 10 miniutes, the whole group will be SMILING!!! THAT IS SO DEADLY!!!
Most of the diseases are passed by contact, but SMILING is AIRBORNE!!! It is THAT DEADLY!!!

The Treatment? Block out your minds with HOMEWORK AND USELESS KNOWLEDGE!!! Teachers are already using this treatment! See how effective it is? Teachers NEVER SMILE AT ALL!!! This is how effective this simple treatment is!!! Other people, like Mas Selamat, government officials are using a slightly different treatment. Mas Selamat uses BOMBS as his treatment, while Government officials uses weak rebuttals and "debates that gets you nowhere" as their treatment! AND IT IS AS EFFECTIVE!!!

Scientists report that there are no vaccines found yet for this deadly disease (=D) but they are working on it. One of the scientists, Dr. Lam E Crab, comments "So far, the global cure is the rising oil prices! Statistics have shown that the percentage of people smiling in Singapore has decreased from 80% to 55%." Therefore, our dear friends from the Middle East, please continue to HIKE THE OIL PRICES!!! THEN WE CAN WIPE THIS DEADLY SMILING DISEASE OFF THE PLANET!

Singapore! Let us work together to nail out this disease!!!

YAY!
I've been added to the blog! :)
Anyway, on a serious note: Please do NOT tag on the tagboard if

1. You want to spam or flood
Please do NOT spam or flood the blog tagboard. Not only is it unsightly, it is difficult to keep track of messages.

2. You want to talk to your friend
Do not attempt to use the ELtagboard as a chatting system like MSN where you engagae in free communication with your friends. Please do that in private, or on any other chatting software.

These points are drawn from what happened today, before CCA when the Sec2s were happily spamming the tagboard. As such, they should be referred to as a guideline and new points would be added as the blog gets OLDER AND OLDER.

Action would be taken against those who misuse the blog and/ or its other counterparts. Visitors who spam would have their messages deleted. If this occurs for a second time, the user's I.P. address would be banned from the system.

For your information, the school's I.P. address has already been blocked from posting onto the tagboard.

Don't let the next one be YOU.

Please, for new posters, do LOOK at the post on MARCH 12: the set of guidelines for making your post an enjoyable one. Also, you may be EXHILARATED to note that the length of the blog has been extended to 14 posts per page, than the older 7 post per page. This was implemented for easy reference purposes. :)

Hello all. Remember my story on a thermometer & thermostat? I'm going to share its meaning to all of you It is about being either one. It is our choice. We can see that when others need us, we could either ignore (thermometer) or help (thermostat). Lets all be thermostat in EL!! BB

RE:the post below

LOL. I forget to put my name. The post below is brought to you by Clement.

My 1st post.

Thank you for taking time to read this post, it is my pleasure.

Recentlly I have not been very active in EL but I ask for forgiveness as I'm very busy, but not to worry. I will try my best to be more regular (not upsize) in attendance.=]

Just some things to share. It will be a story, then some conclusion.

Many of us play maplestory right? You would find this story familiar.

Once upon a time, there lived 2 brothers. They were farmers who need to support thier families.

One time, there was a drought and the farmers had a harsh time harvesting thier crops of rice. The older brother, thinking that his younger brother has a big family with 5 children need more rice, brought some of his own rice to his brothes's rice shed at night. The younger brother thought that his older brother need more rice as he was the one who stays with their parents. He also brought some of his own to his brother's shed.

They used different pathways and never met.

When they went back, they were surprise to see that they still have the same amount of rice in their own shed left. They thought it was a blessing from heaven.

On the next night, they were both thinking that they should share thier blessings. So they did the same thing. But this time, they used the same road and met. Looking at each other, they drop their sacks of rice and hug each other and cried.
THE END. I will tell you the moral of this story on my next post. BB

Sports Day... -.-

Hi all! Yong Quan here again...

Anyway, about the JG debate,
When? 28th March
Where? (I cannot remember)
Motion? This House would change the minimum voting age to 16
AND GUESS WHICH SIDE WE ARE ON... OPPOSITION.

Post about Sports Day? Sure.

That day was boring personified. Even some stupid hard homework like PHYSICS suddenly became so interesting on that day. (yes I brought my homework to do, and no I'm not a study-fanatic)

Honestly speaking. Who would want to go and cheer? Ok, maybe some. But if the school makes Sports Day "non-compulsary" I am ready to bet that at least half of the school will not be there. Anyway at where I was sitting at the Cheng house position, some people sitting at the most top rows were throwing paper aeroplanes down... I can symphatise with that, I mean, even watching the Scouts unload the hot-doggidy-dog-dawgs is more interesting compared to watching someone sprint 100 metres. I got nothing against sports, but honestly, I was very unwilling to go. My day started out on the wrong side of bed... literally. If you are interested, this is how my day went before the sports meet.

1. I woke up and wanted to turn over to check the time, and I fell out of bed (as I was sleeping at the side)
2. I knocked into my wardrobe door head-first because my room's exit and the wardrobe are side-by-side.
3. I accidently drank some disgusting thing instead of my usual "morning coffee"
4. Raindrops the size of bullets started to pelt when I just left the house.
5. I sliced my finger while trying to open the stupid umbrella
6. And realised my umbrella was leaking.

DO YOU SERIOUSLY THINK I WOULD APPERICIATE AND FIND SOME ENTHUAISM IN THE SPORTS MEET?

Well... that's about it. And my friends and I were betting about the runners during the Fartleg race. What were we betting? Which runner was going to fall within 50 metres from the finishing line.

That's all ladies and gentlemen. Have a happy-hala-ho weekend!
Yong Quan

My lightbulb goes on!

Following the shenanigans of Sports Day, when Hairil taught me a new word "montage", which happens to mean collage, yep, a bright idea returned. ^^ . Yea, and if you have no idea what i am saying, dictionary.com is always good. I'm practising some vocab in this post. Here goes the chockpot of ideas.

Apparently, I asked Mr Bryant last year if we could have something like a festival for Arts... and he said it was going to be a lot of planning... and very clashing, resulting in my ambivalent attitude towards this brainchild as the time passes.

He was right to some extent. Ah well, I would've liked to see this happen. C'mon, we have Sports Day, then we have Maths and Science Week, both of which no one really pays attention to. As majority of us (or all of us) would have agreed, have something to entertain you during Sports Day, and the only thing worth listening to during the M & S week is probably the soap-making.

This just goes to show ...

1. There is no outlet for Arts (C'MON UG HAVE THEIR OWN DAYS!)

2. There's no specific interesting thing that appeals to people who happen to NOT belong to any of the aforementioned groups ... My mum said that I coudn't be interested during sports day because it just wasn't my thing.

3. Why shouldn't the school pay more attention to aesthetics and stuff outside of the boring curriculum! Isn't it obvious?! Only an early human wouldn't understand how art - the cornerstone of creativity and intelligence - is mandatory in advancement! (This will be furthur explained in an upcoming post)

Yep, anything that you can add to this list, is very good for a petition .. (that is going to be ignored anyway).

Honestly, we should have such a festival. Very very renaissance if you ask me. =) We should have everything to do with the Arts ^^. By that, I mean all non sports, ug or science ccas. All over campus. Everywhere! Ahh .. that would be a dream come true. Darn, I can be such an idealist.

This might not happen in this school, maybe in a tertiary institution. Or in another arts-respecting school.

Yep, and the film that is in discussion. It's most likely not going to happen, but hey, at least we gotta get the first part done - planning, scripting bla bla.

I think i'm going to be laughed at if anyone outside of EL reads this. You guys have absolutely no clear idea about this ... it's a going to be a painful, humbling, embarassing experience throughout. Very muc because people don't think much of us, or whether eldds is capable of nurturing people. But as far as Constance is concerned, she has done her job.

As Shakira would have said when it came to an artistic project: It's a baby, and it doesn't come without the delivery pains. Anddd she'd say it in a cool Latina Colombian accent.

sports day. whee.

Okay for those clamouring for an update, I have it here! By the way, a number of posts are underway, so look out for them ... Joan is going to post soon too.

Well, for one thing I was late today, not a good start, but hey! didn't have to listen to the speech.

Sat at Ai House for a few hours straight, with my butt, legs and brains going numb. And that darn loudspeaker. Honestly, WHAT'S WRONG WITH SPEAKING NORMALLY?!! It's not like we can't hear and those poor souls near the loudspeaker lost their hearing. Sometimes the clashing of songs get too loud and that really really isn't a good thing. Nothing to entertain myself with.

If there is anything to be happy about, at least the teachers' games were entertaining for a bit. Not bad to see runners race neck to neck. As for the rest of the parts, it was hum-drum. I'd rather do lessons. It was so boring, I could barely talk crap. =(

Speaking of things I'd rather do: some are horrible suggestions, but still not as bad.

(DISCLAIMER: NO OFFENCE INTENDED, WHATEVER IS WRITTEN IN THIS POST IS FOR THE SELF-ENTERTAINMENT OF A DEPRIVED SOUL, SO DON'T BE TOUCHY AND LAUGH ALONG WITH ME, JUST IN CASE YOU THE READER ARE SOMEONE WITH AUTHORITY)

1. Be at an art museum. I can watch still paintings and not be bored. (not being sarcastic here, I can appreciate Da Vinci's genius instead of letting my IQ slide because my brain was painfully inactive today)

2. Watch a play (horrible ones? With sub standard actor? I have no idea which is worse)

3. Not listen to another speech or sit through the parents teachers address. That was worth listening, and when it wasn't, at least you have classmates to do self-entertaining)

4. FALL ASLEEP MY ABSOLUTE FAV!

5. Change the words of the cheers, disturb the councillors looking at my un-enthu face.

eg. "Chicken feet ha-ha all the way" => " Dde-kha" all the way. (Pig trotters in dialect)

6. Go for musical training, I prefer being entertained by the looney instructor.

7. Listen to some music that doesn't come out of the loudspeaker. I hated the teeny bop songs Thinking very little Madonna, in the mood for some Beyonce and Rihanna ... (caught up at home)

8. Arrange the Ruffles and Twisties and Skittles to form "GO (shawn's genius comes here) TEAM JURONG! on the field or the track... so that the airplanes in the sky can see.
(my brother should stop watching art attack in the morning)

9. Work on the film storyline so I wouldn't feel insulted =). Gotta love it when you feel smarter than other people. HEE HEE

10. Illegally tap the mic system... Who knows what you could do?! MUAHAHA.

11. Appreciate Shakira's genius and Beyonce's vocal prowess, she can be a pretty emotional singer, Irreplaceable has a few emotions inside her voice, watch out for it: Vindictive(vengeful), Upset, Pissed off, Apathetic(not-caring), the last one i can't remember.

12. Hunt for Mas Selamat. Not your average treasure/scavenger hunt okay!

13. Maybe the National Day Rally Speech wouldn't be as boring ...

I'm pretty dry on ideas now. Soo .. yeah. Hairil was quite entertaining by the way. You know what you did~ . He was extra mean. As you can see, the word "genius" was repeated many times .. ahh it so reflects my screaming head.

Do post what House you were at, and what you did. And please add to the list above, or elaborate on any one suggestion =) I hope you all had a nice day. Because I sure didn't.

Something to smile about ..

The MUSICAL

I heard that there would be one more elimination as we have 6 people, but they only need 5. The 6 are:

Constance (Sec4 ELDDS)
Mangala (Sec3 ELDDS)
Shawn (Sec3 ELDDS)
Angelica (Sec2 ELDDS)
Marlyna (Sec2 ELDDS)
Nicole (Sec4 Dance)

As in the previous post, the storyline would be in 3 main parts.
Act I the PRESENT.
There would be a Chinese calligraphy class with the students writing the Chinese word YAN, which means ROOT. They would encounter problems and their ever so caring Jurong teacher -.- would educate them and bring them back into time.

Act II the PAST
There will be this time machine that the students would travel in through time and see all the events that JSS has participated in. Other CCAs like dance, choir even basketball and voleyball would be engaged to do a HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL styled dance to feature the sporting history of our school. Which leaves the audience to wonder... what about the ARTS?

Act III the FUTURE
This part would be featured on what the school loves most. Future School

THE ELDDS DECLARE THAT

As a very regretted fellow JSSian, the English Language Drama and Debate Society of Jurong Secondary School (OMG!) throughly do not support the school in their attempt to put up such a wonderful propagandish musical that would promote the school in its not very rich Chinese heritage and 'glamorous' sporting achievements. We're proud to be part of such a ____ school with a long, rooted ,thickskinned history where the physical and sporting arena is very much paid attention to and where the arts and aesthetics field get less than a quarter of that much deserved recognition. GO AWAY TEAM JURONG!

HURRAYS TO ELDDS FOR BEING SELECTED AND AWARDED THE UNWANTED HONOUR TO PUT UP THIS NOT REALLY BEAUTIFUL PIECE FOR THE SCHOOL!

only hear the GOOD and RIGHT stuff :D

Musical Day 1

Alright .. so I'll bring you the news. Most importantly, the next meeting for the musical is scheduled on the 28th of March. The teachers and trainers are planning for seperate practices. As in, main cast, chorus etc. will be trained in groups first, then brought together.

Their main concern was that people could be committed, otherwise the "jigsaw" of the production would be incomplete, as we all know isn't very nice to look at. Good news is: they have done some considerations and understanding of our positions, so they'd arrange something with the teachers to ensure that everyone can turn up. Of course they are duly prepared for any clashes already. Running-arounds and disappointments etc.

Today was just main cast around, with the exception of Anjelica (aww..). Yep and Nicole (dance) was there too. As for Sec 4s, either Nicole or Constance will do the chorus, and the other in the main cast. As of now, Nicole is fine with chorus... But that is still a vital portion of the musical, according to the trainer.

Supposedly commitment matters most. Oh um, Anjelica, you are off the hook. She understood your situation when I explained to her. But still a bit "arrrgh" disappointed cuz it'd be a little hard to work with since we did a lot today.

Yep, and the plot storyline was released to us. Too long to type here, but nothing too impressive really hmm.. I shan't say too much - wink wink - You guys know me well enough. Well, even if you don't know me that much, you should understand the school's - cough - ambitions. Not exactly minimalist and on a TIGHT budget.

The script will not have too many lines, but actions will do the speaking, which is in truth really tricky. It will involve different teams of people, and everyone is important ("can't have people running off").

- Sighs - At least there aren't a lot of Sec 4s. The commitment will be a confusing problem.

Also, in the actual thing, to save time, some parts will be filmed and projected a la Taman Jurong 2006. Very deja vu, horrible deja vu, for Constance. This is why I am a bit tired of the recycled-ness, except made bigger.

Main cast is going to be onstage most of the time, and Marlyna has had a fixed role already ;) just that we don't know what it is. The rest of the roles aren't released yet, but the script is getting finalising. That's a good thing. And yeah, since this is very JSS-history centred -winces- , they feel that "the best way to understand history is to go back to the root". Yep, this is the stuff of speeches we hear in the morning or when our bums go numb during assembly. Can feel my eyelids drooping, but that's just me. I can be critical and judgemental on the very occasional occasion.

Okays, so the starting of the play would be a calligraphy class, and everyone is doing well. Except for one unfortunate soul who doesn't get it. (Chinese teachers will be enlisted to teach us how to say the strokes in a proper way)
Then a lecture begins on the root of JSS, and poof! A time machine that goes back 60s, 70s, 80s, future. With sports and arts throughout, BUT WHY IS THERE NO MENTION OF ELDDS UNTIL I BROUGHT IT UP!! darn. We are so understated, and when I said that, people were so astonished to hear it! I wonder where the respect and even that teeny wink of knowledge of el went through the time machine, eh?

Yes, very very grotesque deja vu, for all the sec 3s and 4s who saw the 2006 national day performance. Till this day, I really think it was more of "forced" than "support for dear Constance who's dying up there".

Oh, and a very "cute" touch. Someone among us would be a prissy little missy, like ... "EW! NO FLUSHING SYSTEM?!" in the 60s scene or something. There really isn't going to be a lot fo words, so action
for example, pretending there is a huge crowd when there is only 3 people.

So, for future references, the instructor might take some getting used to. Wasn't too used to her loony-ness, but yeah she's still effective as a drama trainer. So this is just what the general pop. needs to know. But details on her teachings, which might help would surface soon.

Debate Topics

Hi all! Yong Quan here!

Yeah I was reading the guidelines and realised that there was only one tiny line about debate... So... Here are a few topics to ponder about. It really got me thinking.

Debate Motions (refered from the book titled "Taking Sides")
- This House believes that the news media have a liberal bias.
- This House believes that increasing economic inequality is a serious problem.
- This House believes that the Government is monopolized by Big Buisnesses.
- This House believes that the Government should intervene in a Capitalist Economy.
- This House believes that welfare reforms does not benefit the poor.
- This House believes that doctor-assisted suicide should be legalized for the terminally ill.
- This House believes that drug possesion and drug trafficking should be decriminalized.
- This House believes that globalization is good for mankind.
- This House believes that one of the main reasons for divorce is because of communication problems. (This is quite bias... but we still can think about it)

Some food for thought, I guess... Think about them and share your thoughts on the tagbox!

Have fun for the rest of the holidays!

Just some GUIDELINES for Posts

Please, please DO follow these guides to make your post as reader friendly as possible! The pointers are simplified to E.L.D.D.S. to help you remember it easily

1. E: STICK TO THE EFFICIENCY
Be efficient in your posts. Do not beat around the bush. A little personal POV for entertainment is fine. Just do not try to overwrite the post's purpose and make this a boring 'WHAT-I-DID-TODAY' kinda post.

2. L: STICK TO THE LANGUAGE
And of course our Language is ENGLISH. Please type properly, especially for bloggers. Although this is not supposed to be formal, we should try to make this as reader friendly as possible.

For example, please adhere to proper ENGLISH with minimum SINGLISH or 'SOUNDS' as some of us do not understand it. And please do observe simple writing rules like ending with a FULLSTOP, starting each paragraph with an UPPERCASE.

3. D: STICK TO THE DESIGN
Nopes. We're not inhibiting your creativity.. In fact, we're encouraging the growth of it. Observe that the previous few posts are quite colourful. And again this is just to make your post more reader friendly by making it colourful.

FYI, studies have shown that colours help learning and extracting information best.

4. D: STICK TO THE DRAMA
Yes! Drama! Please stick to the fun note instead of being old and boring! To be fair, debate too!

5. S: STICK TO THE SUBJECT
Yes. This is important. The 'SUBJECT' here refers to IDENTITY. Do NOT attempt to write a post under anybody else's identity. And most importantly, do not write an IMPORTANT NOTICE under your name.

If it's for the CCA, please do not write things like "OH MY! 'name' IS HERE! YO GUYS! I JUST WANNA SAY THERES MEETING TMR! OOH! IM SO EXCITED! OMG~!" Please try to use a more collective term, like 'we are going to...' instead of ' I am going to...'. Please obsreve and respect the presence of your other batch mates and seniors/ juniors.

For example, please, if you are informing us of any activities, try to keep your emotions and expressions like 'WAH', 'T.T', 'YAY' to a minimum. After all, this is a public blog, not a private one.

Sorry to have made this blog sound like such a serious one. The above guides are for POSTING ONLY, not for tags. Relax! Choya!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION, The password has been sent to all SEC3S and SEC4S. Attached in the mail are some information as well. (Oh my! I sound so politically correct!) In June, after the SEC4s step down, the SEC2s will have access to the blog as well. After all, we cannot have too many people knowing the password! If everyone blogs, who's gonna read?

Anyway have a great day!

Debate updates

Apparently the ARENA debaters have received the motion already .. but i don't really know the exact motion, so someone from ARENA will update. Btw, the latest arena ep. will be aired on next Monday at 8. JSS against Global Indians.

As for Julia Gabriel, we lost the last round, not sure if that is good news or bad... but the next round comes in last week in march ... will update when the motion reaches us in the last minute again ... darn.

Well for the last round, held at Westwood Sec (very short bus ride), we lost to Orchid Park Sec.

Motion: This House believes that size zero models should be prevented from the fashion industry.

Speakers for Opposition:

1st: Yong Quan 2nd: Hairil 3rd: Anjelica Reply: Hairil Reserve: Constance
Timekeeper: Shawn

Overall, adjudicators seemed to have liked this debate because both sides were very structured! They said it was one of the most organised debates they had seen that evening and the previous schools fell short in that. Good for us! Also, they liked the very strong points. One side focusing on how the government should step in when they can and the other saying they should not be given a chance to interfere. They did catch majority of our points when they were announcing the results.

Apparently, the best speaker from the round is Orchid Park's first speaker, ok that i am really not sure why he won. Those who were there, you'd know he was the least audible of their speakers. Maybe it's his structure?

For JSS debaters, here is the verdict. We LOST by 1.5 marks. 1 out of 3 judges voted for us to win, so it was a close fight.

Reviews by the judges:
1. Could have emphasised more on the root of the problem etc. Yong Quan's points.

2. Difficult to catch Hairil's speech. (I think the propo was a little confused too) Correct me if they didn't say that...

3. Anjelica was fine, but they were wondering why she faltered a bit, but still strong. (thanks to me, i'm so sorry anjelica! note to debate sitters: don't look stressed no matter what the cause, and my reason was because i was worried i couldn't have the cards done in time)

They reviewed there could have been differing styles though, (i thought the propo shouldn't score for style in speaking actually) and that the propo were very animated... Let's have someone else to talk about their animated-ness.

Also, I apologise to Hairil. I thought he wouldn't have anything to say for his reply speech, so i did some organised note taking and rebuttals. Didn't come to much use because it made his head swirl.

Ahaha, and we can see how relieved you guys were when your turn was over. Whew! To be honest, I didn't pay attention to the last speech the propo made. Did anyone? These mean people drew caricatures of the judges while they were deciding.. tsktsktsk. I think I'll bring them next time.

Credits time! Cornstance did rebuttals and stood with the debaters throughout. Awww... Okok enough. To be honest, everyone who came to support (or pathetic moral support. okok just kidding) rocked. If it wasn;t for you guys, our debaters wouldn't have gotten this far. THREE CHEERS YA'LL! Say thank you debaters.

Lastly, thanks to Amanda who has helped us through the debate training. Gotta love the points and scripts. She laid the basic foundation for us, so ... thanks! Yep, that's about it.

Cheers,
Corn-stance. :)

WASSUP ME HOMIES??

Ok easy on that. I was browsing the previous posts and i find that the command of english by both Constance and Shawn is rather commendable. *claps

On another note, i would really recommend that ELDDS-ian watch more movies. Not only are they good for entertainment, some really good ones ( the international award winning ones) are really good. For example, some of these movies shows the actor potraying wacky and out of the world characters, no? Look at Johnny Depp, he is a really understated actor. But, his acting is very commendable. I am sure that alot ( sorry, its "a lot", thanks to english class and Mrs. Aidil) of actors did not complete high school. Muahahaha. So those who are always dreaming of making it big in Hollywood, QUIT SCHOOL NOW! Ok just joking.

So what i am recommending is that ELDDS to go for more plays like last last year ( okok. 2006). During those days, we had a lot of plays to attend. For example, Forbidden City and etc. So lets just hope our teachers make the extra effort and find plays that we can go ( most importantly it has to be free like using Edusave, Sgporean mah, everything must free wan) .

So anyways, thats it. Constance and Shawn, keep it up. Oh and to everyone, ELDDS is gonna have a camp somewhere in June if im not wrong. We are lucky, it has been raining the whole week this March holidays and im pretty sure a lot of CCAs are having their annual camp now right? So screw them. Dont complain ELDDS has no camp when others have it, be THANKFUL.

Cheers,

Hairil

Here's something else

Okay peoples, it's Constance back from lunch.

I was thinking, besides CCA stuff and announcements, we can post some stuff we wish to share.

Like for eg. reflections (not the boring kind, feel free to talk. check shawn's post on the donation drive), anything! Reviews about food, music, movies, public figures, issues, days, humour, politics ... (let's go easy on this one, it's not very nice to find someone's excuse for not coming to cca marked as "arrested")

Yeah, and do post how it relates to Eldds or how you want it to relate. Or if you just wanna share with us, that's fine! We're a welcoming committee ^^

Not to mention, Sec 3s and 4s should have received the details about the blog and email's pword etc. if you have not, the email should be coming to you, i am checking later. For sec 2s and 1s, priviledges will come soon! But anyways, if you guys want to post, or if you are picked to do a post, just approach any of the seniors with the necessary info.

Also, for pictures, it will not be stored under this blog, otherwise it would be pretty difficult to check info. It would be under an image hosting website. *waits for someone to volunteer pics. camera. host* links would be given too.

Keep the tags coming. and thanks! Anita, i believe you would be doing a post now (:

Your first el-related paying job is here! XD

Attention all ELDDSians,

Please leave the DRABATE a message if you are interested.

This is how you contact DRABATE: drabatetherock@hotmail.com. PLEASE INDICATE WHO YOU ARE. WE'RE NOT PSYCHIC!

Just for LAUGHS

Haha! Still in the Donation mood! So I've come up with the wonderful

100 WAYS TO ANNOY THE RUDE PASSER-BY!

1. When you ask a person and he or she is rude, say WHATEVER loudly
2. Chase after the person

3. Shout loudly "SELFISH PIG!", sits down on floor and cry

4. Stare at them like how they stared at you HAHA
5. Shout "YOU BIG BULLY!"
6. Go up to the rude person and flip your hair in their face

7. Wail "YOU MISER!"
8. Stay there and say "I'LL BE BACK"

9. Begin a story on how poor the children are and why they should donate
10- 100. Threaten to shout "MOLEST" if they do not buy

And now, 100 WAYS TO IRRITATE THE PERSON-WHO-ASKS-YOU-TO-BUY!

1. Stay and listen to their story. When they're done, say "What a nice story"
2. Reapeat Step1 and say "I forgot to bring my wallet"
3. Say "Can I pay by card?"
4. Shout "Molest"
5. Run away from the person, with a terrified look on your face
6. Donate 10cents and ask where the money goes

7. Repeat "Oh my cute little darling! Whats this?" until they get pissed
8. Scream "OMG ITS TOO EXPENSIVE! DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!"

9. Say "I don't trust charities. Neither do I trust you"
10. Say "IS THIS ANOTHER SLIMMING CENTRE RECRUITMENT?! I DON'T WANT ANY! DO I
LOOK FAT?! OH MY!" and walk away

The ULTIMATE LINE ... SIMPLE BUT POWERFUL!
11-100. Exclaim "I BOUGHT ALREADY!" when you don't even know what this is

Enjoy!
SHAWNLIM!

CIP at JurongPoint: Charity Draw for Lakeside Family Centre

Yes guys! (and girls)

Yesterday was the CIP session that we all had to go to. Wasn't it fun! :P

Remember the selling of some draw tickets that entitles a chance to guess the number of balls in a car. Correct answer: wins the car.

The EL performance was exceptional! No unwilling faces were seen... (like some other CCAs...hehe)The eagerness to promote Lakeside Family Centre was observed, thus proving that ELDDS is not only a society for DRAMA and DEBATE, but we give our heart to the community as well!

Of course there were some UNFORGETTABLE incidences where the ugly Singaporean image reveals... With some aunties filping their hair into our faces when we approach. By holding the charity draw tickets in hand, a space of 1 metre around us would be vacant.

Ignorance, Rudeness and Excuses were the 3 biggest BIGGEST attitudes observed yesterday. There were some who literally stare at you like the weirdest alien on earth!

I wonder why Singaporean claim that teenagers are RUDE when at least they bother to say "NO THANKS!" and smile! It's the older and working generation that are the OBNOXIOUS ONES! (For example, like walking in the other direction, flipping their danruff all over you and staring at you like you're nude AHH!)

Singaporeans!

But of course let's not spoil Singapore's image with these black sheeps. What about those who bought?

According to survey by Durga, Anita and ME!, statistic have shown that in 3 hours:
we asked 335 people, at a rate of 1.86 (3 significant figure) person per minute and only managed to sell 12 tickets!

For a detailed brakdown,
Only after askin 108 people, then did we managed to sell our 1st ticket
And after asking 103 people did we manage to sell our 2nd
Another 20 was asked before a kind lady offered to buy a tikcet from each of us. MUACKZ!
So we asked another 14 before we sold our 6th ticket
And another 7 people before we sold our 7th
Coincidentally, another 7 before our 8th ticket
And 11 more others before our 9th
WONDERFULLY, another 1 person before another one was sold
20 more people before we sold our 11th
and finally, 32 people before we sold our final one!

But i believe our record breaker was "(oops! i forgot your name)" who sold more than a booklet of 10 BY HERSELF! KUDOS!

After this experience, anyone else willing to go through this again?I believe I am... as a volunteer tommorrow :( I'm a volunteer with the FamilyCentre by the way!

Also, I believe the members names and links will be up soon. Let's work together to keep this blog going!

Cheers!

Hey EL! Looks like we finally got our own blog, courtesy of me. (bleh) and with help from Mr.Shawn, who just happenned to be online. Wonder why this blog took so long to materialise... Anyway, this name is non-fussy and we suppose its very much a mouthpiece for ELDDS.

A little intro now: This url, elddspeaking, and the title, "The Voice of Us All", was picked simply because it represents a place for ELDDS to express ourselves and air our views and queries about any issue. Also, let's stick to his bloggie for communications, and in future, do refer to this little bloggie for meeting times etc. You may also post any questions here. Teachers are welcome to tread upon this sacred area too. And if any of you teachers are invited to this blog, it would be a great honour which you should remember for the rest of your life!

The official email address for ELDDS has been done up too. At the next EL session, we'll be enlightening you on the necessary info. Shawn would be doing up a skin, so lets all bear with the template for now. We'll explain the new items the Sec3s have came up with this year, including our dear Drabate!

When the skin is done up, and of course the tagboxes and whatnot, do give us links to your blogs, ladies and the gents =) Anything you would like to bring our attention to is completely welcomed. Pictures and videos should be posted too.

Alright! Now some housekeeping rules! Since its a blog, there should be freedom of expression... hmm...

Well, there really has to be some pretty cyber basic stuff:

1. Do not sabotage this blog (viruses, spams, or inviting a teacher privately, INCLUDING FLAMING)

2. Personalise your tags. Stuff has to come with your personal style! Type like you would, relax! We want you to be you. (bU+ plS D0 n0+ u$E +H1$!!! wEE cAn+ $Ee AnY+HinG!!!)

3. Rule No.2 is not applicable to blog posts like this one. Please try to use proper English for posts. After all, this is English- LDDS, not Singlish-LDDS. It is also difficult for easy reference. (Like, "ElDd$! +hEre w1LL b CcA @ 35o +0moR0!" is difficult to see. Misinterpretation may occur!)

4. Please be responsive and enthusiastic. And do not hide your identity by tagging "Anonymous: I'm a stranger" You have a name! (Nicknames acceptable too)

5. No gossips. Please do not line this blog with your dirty lining... and especially gossips about teachers.. (OOH!) You wouldn't want teachers coming to this blog and reading all this, and we'll all die =p

Why? It's very unprofessional and it tells people what kind of a person you are: an 'ahlian' or 'ahbeng' who has no life and thinks this is cool. It's ok to use short forms that are understandable, but not like this. Btw, do use fonts that we can see. don't make us die premature deaths by resulting in us staring at your bright yellow font against a bright yellow background.

Air your views, but don't be too scathing. It's not a nice thing to do, (like any of you are nice. -.-) Singlish is fine, but not too much, no overloads while still maintaing your Singaporean (or as they say, Sillyporean, status) "Bad words" are okay (NOT vulgarities), again keep it to a minimal. We're all human, and we understand. After all, if we're inviting teachers to this blog we MUST behave ourselves like little angelic creatures! HEHE.
In giving your opinions, you have to not be so judgemental and fair, and thank you constructive comments. Complaining but no constructive comments can drive people nuts. Well, on issues, do try to speak the truth as much as possible. Don't cross the line. Oh my, how difficult can that be!!!

Yeah ... diplomacy is good. Not only in the case of drama and debate, but also in this microphone that we can hear, and maybe some people invited.
Maybe we should have an invite system? Not a very good idea, cuz outsiders not from this school can't see what we have to say, and what happens if we want to be heard?

Of course on some occasions ... no. Be careful of what you say.

Other than being an announcemment thing, it is my wish that all members of the cca, regardless of level and position can create posts. It shouldn't be a "seniors only" talk section. It ain't fair to the juniors, ya? No one-ways ...
.
I'm so going to get into trouble for not making this clean, but I will stand by this no matter what explanation is given to persuade, like c'mon, it's a blog, ain't it?

Still, be careful of what you type; anyone can see it. Anyone can have an opinion and a response, Afterall, we are definitely more democratic than other places.

Soo yeah! LET'S KEEP THIS BLOGGIE GOING! DON'T LET IT DIE. Everyone's gotta put in a post sometime, and responses must be given, okay? Do take care of this baby.

ELDDS WILL NOT BE SILENCED. (:
(First draft by Constance, edited by Shawn, then edited by Constance and proof-read)

Say HI! to our new blog!

Hey people! ELDDS finally has a blog of it's own! WOOHOO! Hurray for Constance! Members, the Secondary3s are your bloggers. Therefore, for any CCA updates, you may refer to this blog for information w.e.f. March 1. As this is a new blog, please bear with us as the blog is still under construction.
